Daily inspiration: Branches

Branches inspire me every autumn. I love the texture and the shapes, the way they reach for the sky. There’s something sad and desperate about branches after the leaves have fallen. I can almost hear the tree giving a last sigh when it’s shivering in the autumn wind. Yet, there’s life, deep down there. Somewhere in the dead threes there’s always a source of life.

How to materialize the inspiration:

1. Bring branches into your home. Birch is particularly trendy right now. If you take it in during autumn, it will last forever inside, and might even get leaves in the spring! Put it in large vases on the floor or in smaller ones on a row. Or what about making a real three for your jewellery?

2. Write an ode to your favorite tree. Give it courage, hope and strength to last through winter!

3. Take photographs of branches in various shapes and forms. Print or develop on matte paper. What does the shape remind you of? Draw it over the branch! I’ve seen branches reminding me of ballerinas, fences, letters, people, etc. Be creative!
