I went through this exact same dilemma in uni. I even applied for the photography degree. I took whatever units I could of photography at my uni and surprisingly I got top of the class. If I could have my time over I would of done an arty or photography degree. But I understand how difficult a decision it can be. I stuck with my eng studies because it had a clear job at the end. But if I knew then what I know now I would of followed my passion. once you start work the rest of your life is a long time and money means nothing without doing what you love. I'm lucky now in that my blog has lead to lots of amazing creative opportunities and in a way im now able to do both.

is there any way you can do a double degree so you wont have to decide yet? or enroll in a diploma of photography? I know at my uni you could do a diploma in creative arts along with your degree.

You take beautiful photos. (I don´t know you, just look at your blog once in a while, so I actually don´t want to comment on your future and choice. But I can say one thing generally - and that is that having a passion is lovely. Totally crazy great. Just watch out so the passion you feel for something dosen´t blow in your face, when you do it all the time. Even the most funny things could turn in to rainy Wednesdays. But rainy Wednesdays could be the best days, sometimes...)

Really wonderful photographs. I love how you play with the light and shadows. As for your work dilemma, just trust that life will take you on the right path. Believe me -- I've gone from actress to tutor to scientist to philosopher (with a few other things tossed in there). If you love photography, do it. And if you love law, do that too. There's no reason you should ever have to only be one thing. Someday, you may choose to be a photographer full time -- mysteries of what will happen make life so exciting.

For me, I believe in following the heart. Idealistic, some may say. But it'll carry one alot further and through tougher times than money. Nice images!

One more thing about some people's advice to take your lawyer's income and spend it on photography classes and equipment. You won't be able to leave the office in time to take a photography class (or yoga class, guitar class, book club, happy hour, etc) and you'll rarely be out in the daytime to take pictures - not with one of those high-paying jobs. Trust me, I've been there. I left that life for work at a non-profit, which is an improvement but much less money.

I am a lawyer. If I could do it over again, I would spend the years and piles of money/loans on something interesting, fun and full of passion. Making lots of money is not enough for me - not by a long shot. The rest of one's life is a lot of years. That's my very personal take on it - everyone's different.

You are really good at photography!

My advice would be , carry on with law, if you enjoy it. Make lots and lots of money and be able to do all of the things that you want

And take a photography night class, maybe once a week, learn the basics and then develop your skills in your free time, as sarah said, with all the fancy equipment that you will be able to afford!
