The secret to success, dreams come true, the universe and everything
Catchy headline, right?
Well, I bet my message is not quite what you had in mind.
I won’t actually tell you how to become more productive, how to write a New York Time’s bestseller, and this post most certainly won’t make you rich. (At least not in the traditional sense of the word.)
I’m sorry.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let me make a bold assumption about you.
I’m willing to bet that you’re pretty ambitious.
True?
(You and me both, then.)
And that’s why you need what I’ve got more than anything else.
(Because I have been there too.)
You need to hear what I have to say, because if you want success, dreams come true, the universe and everything, it is pretty easy to take on more than you can chew.
(Oh yes, I have been there.)
(And if you’re determined to get that books to the top of the list, you don’t really need anyone to tell you how to do it, aaaanyways.)
So here we go: Sometimes, the best thing you can do is to do nothing at all. Sometimes, it is wise to take a step back and let things unfold, all by themselves.
Let’s say you’re writing that book. What happens when you write and write and write, without stepping back to get an overview? Or say you dream of living a life full of awesomeness and magic. What happens when you sparkle and glow, help and inspire without stopping to think about how you really feel inside?
Whatever you dream about, whatever you do, we all need to rest sometimes.
Because nothing good comes from pushing.
Pushing is when we work and work and work, and then work a little more. Pushing is when you keep working, even though you’re already exhausted. Pushing is when you contine, even though everything is lost already. Pushing is when you are tempted to give up, just because you can’t stand doing what you’re doing any more. Pushing is to value the dream higher than you value yourself.
I know. It’s so, so easy to get attached to the outcome. It’s so, so easy to cling to that silver lining, the dream in the end of the tunnel. And sometimes, you want something so badly it physically hurts just to think about it. Sometimes all you want to do is to go for it, full throttle. And that’s all good. Just make sure you don’t loose yourself on the way.
So this post is going to be short and sweet.
Take a break from whatever it is that you’re doing.
Rest.

A very timely reminder for me – thanks!
Glad to be of use! :)
I agree wholeheartedly. If you spend too long close to the flame, you’ll get burned and lose your appreciation for both its heat and its aesthetics. Often times, that step back is exactly what it take to realize how beautiful something is, or how far your creation has come since its original fruition. It’s easy to become overwhelmed. Rest is such a vital (and underestimated)element of success, in any area. I actually spent today resting, so this couldn’t have been anymore appropriate. Wonderful post, as usual. Thank you!
That’s so true, I’ll have to remember that flame analogy!
Thank you so much for reading and commenting, Erin<3
This post has come to me at the right time, I value all the advice you have to give. It’s a beautiful thing you do xo
That’s my favourite kind of synchronicity! Hope you take a long, hot bath! :)
Blahhhh it’s like the best and worst advice haha! I know what you’re saying is true but I don’t want to stop right now!!!
This post brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for putting into words what I’ve been feeling lately.
This line especially spoke to me –
“It’s so, so easy to get attached to the outcome.”
It’s Sunday and I will take your advice and rest.
Thank you
I’m so happy that you’re taking the advice, listening to your body and slowing down! Hope you have a great Sunday<3
Oh my goodness, I can’t thank you enough for this. I am under so much stress with applications and tests and everything – I just really needed to read this.
How interesting. As soon as I saw the image at the top of your post, I took a breath. And felt calm. Funny how sometimes we forget to just breathe.
To rest is not only to gain energy but also to look back and learn from what we have done.
