5 Why’s to True Motivation
Hope. Faith. Guts. Bravery. Willpower.
Motivation has many forms and comes in many shapes.
And if it’s one thing I know for sure – it’s that you can’t transform and thrive during hard times without it.
Mo. Ti. Vation.
It’s such a fluffy word, isn’t it?
It’s so easy to think that you either have it – or not at all.
But motivation can also be half-hearted, false, weak or habitual.
Motivation isn’t just motivation.
You need it to be true. For you.
So, before we embark on this journey together – through the past, present and future version of the hard life – let’s spend a moment reflecting on your motivation.
Why do you want what you want?
Say you – like me – want to feel more joy in the present moment. Regardless of what drama is going on in life.
(Who doesn’t want that?)
But have you ever thought about why?
For me – I immediately think that I want it because that would make me happier. But why do I want to be happier?
It might sound like a stupid question, but it’s a question worth answering, nonetheless.
Yes, life would be more meaningful, but why do I want that?
I would be able to focus more on my purpose, but what makes that so important to me? Why do I want that?
I want to make the world a better place.
Because I want to help people heal.
Now, that’s the reason that stirs my soul and turns my belly into a hot, vibrating, mess.
That’s what gives me butterflies – it’s something that simultaneously scares and excites me.
That is what I am here to do. And that is the power source of my true motivation. That’s the purpose that has the power to guide me through another stormy day.
That’s what makes everything meaningful – everything from writing love lists to being open about difficult emotions like shame and self-hatred. It’s what makes everything meaningful – for me.
Your motivation might be something completely different. Maybe you are on this earth to spread joy. To love someone unconditionally. To cook nourishing food. To create art that makes people stop and think. And maybe you are on this earth to learn how to live.
The purpose that makes your body into a hot mess –say YES – that’s your motivation. That’s your faith. THAT is your TRUTH.
It usually takes 5 why’s.
What is your motivation?
