Night poem

Nightwatch
When the night comes
and darkness swallows you up
like a whale in the sea –
Let me be your light.
When the stars come forth
and the only sound
comes from a distant car
racing away –
I am here.
When the air gets cold
and breathing resembles more
eating icicles,
than a summer breeze –
I will carry you forth.
And when the burden
(of sleeplessness)
gets heavy
like a sword –
Lay (it) down with me.
And let go.
…
