I want to know when you are unafraid

I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid - from A Case of You by Joni Mitchell

I have written a lot about fear. How to overcome it. How I meet it. How it rules my life.

And I get so many e-mails from people who are afraid. Frightened to follow their dreams, afraid of change, up in their knees with social anxiety.

And it's okay.

We're in this together. If writing about your fear, seeking advice and stretching out a virtual hand helps you - please, please keep on writing. And I'll keep on answering. You'll re-assure me, and I'll reassure you. It's a win-win situation.

But we don't need to talk about fear all the time.

This post kind of came to me thrrough the Joni Mitchell song quoted above (performed so beautifully by James Blake). And then I read the poem below. The rest just came to me. Usually, I'm all about writing, re-writing and editing everything that I publish. But this time, I'm going to publish, unafraid. Speak from the heart. So here is a little text, inspired.

I want to know when you are unafraid.

Because I'm drawn to people who can listen, unafraid, when others open up, take their weapons down and let go. I'm drawn to people who can dream, unafraid, and let their minds wander through the future like a rocket towards the moon. I'm drawn to people who can act, unafraid, to create their own history and write their stories in bold type. I'm drawn to people who live life in the fast lane, unafraid, and yet they never think twice about following their heart, wherever it may lead. I'm drawn to people who can love, unafraid, I'm attracted to the ones who don't divide people into good an bad, but equal. I'm drawn to people who give freely of themselves, unafraid of emptying the well, because they know it will never run dry. I'm drawn to people who can sit with silence, share it and devour it, unafraid of pausing, breathing and living. I'm drawn to people who can speak their mind, unafraid, and raise their voice at all the right times. I'm drawn to people who can stand up for themselves, unafraid, when the world throws you lemons and apples and melons. I'm drawn to people who can cry, unafraid, when their hearts ache and their minds are tender. I'm drawn to people who can laugh, unafraid, and open their hearts to happiness, comfort and love

So, take a moment and think about where you are unafraid. Can you travel to the other side of the world and still find your way through a busy subway? Can you pour out love for others and never fear the intensity and the vulnerability of love? Can you apply for jobs you're underqualified for, unafraid of the possibility of rejection? Can you make friends anywhere, anytime?

I want to know when you are unafraid.

I want to know when fear is the last thing on your mind.

I want to know what you're god at.

I want to know when you shine.

I want to know when you feel on top of the world.

"I want to know if you can sit with pain mine or your own without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it."

I just want to know what makes you come alive. If you feel inspired to share, please do so in the comments!
